Thomas got his musical break as a guitarist in the Cameroonian band Tigres Noires 
in the early '70s but left the outfit in 1976 to pursue a solo career. 
He recorded a remarkable hit with "Afric Typic Collection," a dance number that 
incorporates a variety of West and Central African rhythms.
