See That Essential album for pioneering Belgian EBM, August 23, 2004 Reviewer: Atomizer (Belgium) When I first heard the vinyl version of these tracks, back in 1984 I was stunned with the alienating sound this duo produced in their debut release. When buying the CD-version of this album 20 years later I'm surprised of how good the sound has survived all the hypes that have passed. This music has still the same alien-urban effect on me. It's electro stripped to the bone. Following the paths of Suicide and Cabaret Voltaire the duo of Leuven, Belgium started of a series of tapes and singles with a minimalistic electronic sound. The most representative songs of those days are also included on this compilation. 'TV-treated' and 'Fashion Party' became real underground hits back in our Belgian Underground-scene. Personally my favorite track has always been 'Concrete (NY Stoney Wall Doll)' because of the haunting synthesizer 'scream' starting of the greatest EBM dance track ever! The EP 'Mbih!' gives already a good impression of how the duo would evolve the next years. For that reason 'Tomorrow In The Papers' is a great song. The raw, cold and empty atmosphere of the first recording can't be beat by any other of their releases, though. Be sure to check out the live track 'Nion'. It's Minimalism at it's best...
